With the 2022 FIFA World Cup less than a month away, the United States and head coach Gregg Berhalter are putting the finishing touches on their 26-man roster for the tournament in Qatar.

The announcement will come just five days before FIFA’s deadline for roster submissions, and 12 days before the U.S. team’s opening match against Wales.
After missing the 2018 World Cup in agonizing fashion, the United States endured a long four-year cycle where dozens of players helped the U.S. return to qualification. In the process, each player made his case for a spot at the tournament in Qatar.
The United States has by far the youngest overall player pool of any team at the 2022 World Cup based on qualifying matches, with an average age of 23.82 through the 14 CONCACAF World Cup qualifiers, nearly a full two years younger than anyone else who qualified for the World Cup, according to U.S. Soccer.
All U.S. fans will be eagerly awaiting the eventual announcement of the 26-man squad to take the field for FIFA’s showcase tournament which starts Nov. 20.

USA World Cup Roster Release Date
The United States will announce the 26-man World Cup roster on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 5:00 p.m. ET.
Gregg Berhalter will pare down his provisional roster, which features 35-55 players and was due to be submitted to FIFA near the end of October, to just 26 players. Those 26 players will be in attendance and available for match selection in Qatar.
Any injury replacements that are required between the roster announcement and the start of the 2022 FIFA World Cup must come from the provisional roster. The United States chose not to make the provisional roster public.

Who will make the USMNT 2022 World Cup team?
The likes of Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie, and Tyler Adams are sure to be locks on the roster if healthy, as they look to lead the United States to victory at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
There are a number of places still up for grabs, however, and Gregg Berhalter will surely help seal the fate of the U.S. side with his player selection.
Most notably, there are questions at center-back. Walker Zimmerman is a lock to not only make the roster but start in defense, but his partner is at this point uncertain thanks to a long-term injury to Miles Robinson. Cameron Carter-Vickers, Aaron Long, Chris Richards, and Erik Palmer-Brown are all in contention.
Up front, the striker spot is also in question. Jesus Ferreira seems likely to be the starter for the U.S., but he hasn’t exactly secured his spot, and there are many who could press him for time. Still, the likes of Ricardo Pepi, Josh Sargent and Jordan Pefok will first need to secure a spot on the roster before pushing for playing time — and goals — in Qatar.

When will the USMNT squad be announced for the World Cup?
Berhalter is set to announce the complete 26-man USMNT squad on November 9 at an event held in New York City.
The announcement will come five days ahead of FIFA’s deadline for roster submissions and 12 days before the USMNT’s World Cup opener against Wales.
Normally, rosters are announced weeks in advance but, with club matches being played right up until that deadline, the process has changed to accommodate this World Cup’s winter schedule.
What has Berhalter said about his World Cup roster?

After selecting the roster for September friendlies, Berhalter was quick to stress that his squad could change drastically in the lead-up to the World Cup due to form and injuries.
“A lot can happen between now and November 9, which is when we’re announcing the final roster,” he said.
“The actual date for FIFA is November 14, and a lot can happen between the ninth and the 14th, so just keep that in mind.”
However, Berhalter has also said that, in an ideal world, he has already decided what his starting XI will look like in Qatar.
“Ideally, in a perfect world, I have [my World Cup lineup ]in mind, but one thing I know is that that’s not international soccer,” Berhalter said.
“Do I think we have the best players in each position identified? Yes. Do I think they’re all going to be available for the start of the World Cup? I don’t know.”
